What sets our practice apart from other San Diego OCD providers

  • Whole-person, whole-system care. We look at how OCD shows up in your life, including your relationships, environment, and daily patterns, not just your day-to-day and symptoms.
  • Experienced with complex cases. Our background in residential and higher levels of care means we’re comfortable supporting OCD alongside trauma, mood disorders, addiction, and more.
  • Flexible access to care. We offer in-person sessions available in Chula Vista and Sorrento Valley, plus virtual therapy across California and Arizona.
  • Bilingual therapy options. We offer sessions in both English and Spanish so you can speak in the language that feels most natural.
  • Flexible, integrative approach. We draw from CBT, DBT, Family Systems, and other modalities to tailor therapy to you.
  • Family work is built in. We can involve partners or family members when it’s helpful for your recovery.

FAQs about OCD therapy

What is the most effective therapy for OCD?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, especially Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), is considered the gold standard for treating OCD. ERP helps you gradually face intrusive thoughts without falling into compulsions, so the cycle starts to lose its grip. Our approach to OCD therapy often blends CBT with other approaches so treatment fits your specific patterns, not just a general protocol.

How long does OCD therapy take?

It depends on what you’re dealing with and how long it’s been going on. Some people start to feel real relief within a few months of consistent work, while others benefit from longer-term support, especially when OCD overlaps with trauma, addiction, or relationship stress. We’ll talk through your goals early and adjust as we go so the pace feels realistic and helpful.

Can OCD go away on its own?

OCD usually doesn’t resolve without support. The things that bring short-term relief, like avoidance or reassurance, tend to keep the cycle going over time. With the right tools and consistency, most people see a meaningful reduction in symptoms and feel more in control of their day-to-day life.

Do I need medication for OCD?

Not always. Many people make strong progress with therapy alone. Others find that combining therapy with medication, often SSRIs, gives them more relief, especially for more intense symptoms. We don’t prescribe medication in-house, but are happy to collaborate with your doctor so your care feels connected and aligned.

Does insurance cover OCD treatment?

Many insurance plans offer coverage for therapy, but Pathways Family Therapy is considered an out-of-network provider for most major insurance companies. That means you pay upfront, and we can provide you with a monthly superbill for possible reimbursement through your plan. We’re happy to walk you through how this works so there are no surprises.

How do I know if your practice is the right fit?

Fit matters more than people think. If you’re looking for an OCD therapist who takes time to understand the full picture, including relationships, family dynamics, and any overlapping concerns, you’ll likely feel at home here. The best way to know is to connect with us. We offer a free consultation so you can ask questions, get a feel for the process, and decide what feels right for you.
