What sets our practice apart from other sex addiction and porn addiction treatment providers

  • We treat the whole system, not just the behavior. Compulsive patterns affect—and are affected by—your relationships. Our family systems training means we can work with you, your partner, or your whole family.
  • Deep experience with acute and complex cases. Our clinicians have decades of combined residential treatment experience, so we’re equipped for co-occurring trauma, mood disorders, and clients stepping down from intensive care.
  • Residential pretreatment and aftercare support. If you need a higher level of care or are returning from one, we help you prepare, transition, and maintain your progress.
  • Judgment-free, shame-free care. We see compulsive behavior as a pattern to understand, not a character flaw to condemn.
  • Support for partners, too. Betrayal wounds are real. We work with partners individually and in couples therapy to rebuild trust and intimacy.
  • Flexible formats. Individual, couples, family, and group therapy across two San Diego locations: Chula Vista and Sorrento Valley.

FAQs about porn addiction and sex addiction therapy

What is the best therapy for sex addiction or porn addiction?

There’s no single “best” therapy for these behaviors. The most effective treatment is tailored to you, not a clinical formula that you’re expected to fit. We typically blend Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to interrupt compulsive patterns, trauma-informed work to address root causes, and couples or family therapy to repair relationships.

Insight-oriented work will help you gain critical insight into triggers and needs that undergird addictive patterns. Your therapist will build an approach around your specific needs.

Are sex addiction and porn addiction mental illnesses?

Compulsive sexual behavior is recognized by the World Health Organization as a diagnosable condition, though it’s not listed in the DSM-5 (the manual that therapists use to diagnose mental health conditions). Diagnostic labels aside, the distress that fuels and results from these behaviors is real, and the patterns respond well to treatment.

Do you offer support for partners of people with porn addiction or sex addiction?

Yes. Discovering a partner’s compulsive behavior can be deeply painful, even traumatic. We offer individual therapy for partners and couples therapy focused on rebuilding trust. You can also meet with us on your own, even if your loved one isn’t ready for therapy yet.

Is therapy for sex addiction and porn addiction covered by insurance?

Yes, therapy is often covered in part by insurance. We don’t bill insurance directly, but we provide a monthly superbill for clients with PPO plans who wish to pursue reimbursement through their insurance carrier.
